After researching the victorian era, it helped me understand the lifestyle of the people in that time period and it helped me compare the things I learned from my notes with the book. I found that there is a big difference between the upper and lower class. Since Algernon is in the upper class, he is treated differently then his servant Lane. Although they are both respected, Algernon is respected more because of his wealth and social standing.

I also found that the roles of men and women were very different in the victorian era and the book. Women were expected to do things around the house while men were in charge of bringing in the money and being social. In the book when Gwednolen and Jack want to get married, it is Jack and Gwendolen's mom who make the overall decision of whether they end up together or not even though Gwendolen is the one getting married.

In the performance, he did a good job on physical presence. He looked confident and relaxed in front of the audience. It was also very easy to hear him and tell what he was saying. For dramatization, he used a few hand jestures but they didn't take away from the poem so they were appropriate. The level of difficulty was also good. The poem wasn't too difficult but it was pretty long. It seemed that he got the meaning of the poem but didn't enhance it enough to make the audience understand it as good as they could.

I think the poem was about sympathy towards a caged bird. It sounded as though the speaker of the poem knew what it was like to be restrained and not be able to do what they dreamed of doing. The reciter did a good job of articulating some words and putting pauses between some lines to add dramatic effect.

Before reading To Kill a Mockingbird, I didn't really understand motif. The definition was a recurring subject theme or idea in a literary work but I still didn't fully understand it like I could if I had an example. The motif in the book is it is a sin to kill a mockingbird and now I see what motif is. It ties together all the different themes like justice vs. injustice and black vs. white.

One mockingbird in the story is Tom Robinson. Although he was crippled, he was shot dead in a prison yard after trying to escape. Atticus tells his children that it is a sin to kill a mockingbird because they never harm anyone. This goes for Tom Robinson too. He never harmed anyone or anything, just got stuck in a bad situation where he was found guilty for a crime he did not commit and everyone in Maycomb realizes this. This is one of the many examples of the motif in the book that helped me further understand what motif is.

Life Lesson

When I was younger and I had a problem, I would always go to my parents and complain about that problem and expect them to help me with it. If they could they would offer their advice but when it came to a fight between me and my brother and I felt that i had an unfair advantage, they would tell me life isnt always fair.

I used to think that they just liked my brother better then me but then i realized that they were helping me for later on in life. When I grew older and no longer had someone to help me with unfair advantages, I would already have learned to keep trying and solve my own problems.

One of my best friends is Nicole Ide. She is a very interesting and unusual child. She has light brown hair and always wears it straight even though she has naturally amazing curly hair. Although she can be quiet at times she is usually loud and obnoxious. She always has something to say about everything unless shes in a bad mood.



Nicole is definitely an extrovert person. She is very creative when she wants to be. She is the furthest thing from an egotisit or egoist and usually is an altruist.

My earliest childhood memory is probably my first day of preschool. I was super excited to finally start school. I had watched my brother go to school everyday and had always wanted to go with him so I was really happy when I finally got to go too.

When I first got to my preschool I didn't want my mom to leave me by myself because i didn't know anyone. But then I met Kendra. I thought she was weird at first but then we became good friends playing house and playing on the little playground.
